Overview:  The 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 has numerous configurations, and is one of the most customizable vehicles on the market. It’s available with three types of cabs, three cargo beds and five engine options. There’s even a hybrid model. With so many configurations, drivers can create their ideal Sierra. The Sierra impresses with good fuel economy, powerful engine options and comfortable seats.

GMC Sierra 1500 Exterior:  GMC achieved a manly, handsome strong work horse design with the 2011 GMC Sierra’s exterior styling. The multiple configurations available on the truck increase its utility. The Sierra offers three different cargo beds: a short box (69.3 inches long) with the Crew Cab, standard box (78.7 inches long) and long box (97.6 inches long). The standard and long box beds are available with the Regular and Extended Cabs.

One beneficial feature is the optional E-Z lift lockable tailgate, which requires minimum effort to open and close due to a torsion bar installed on the hinges. E-Z lift is a part of the SLE Preferred Package and the SLT Convenience Package.

GMC Sierra 1500 Interior:  The 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 has spacious and comfortable seats in all models. The Sierra offers tech features and interior cubbies with trim upgrades.

The standard cab is only available with a 40/20/40 split-back bench seat. This arrangement allows the middle 20 percent to fold into an armrest with two cupholders and a storage compartment. Extended and Crew Cab models have a 60/40 folding rear bench. The SLE trim offers a center arm rest the folds down and a lockable storage compartment.

Extended and Crew Cab models offer better seats. Front bucket seats with six-way power seat adjusters, manual recline and lumbar adjustment are available on the SLE trim. These seats with a few upgrades come standard with the SLT and Denali trims.

Work Truck trim for Regular, Extended and Crew Cab models, have air conditioning, a basic audio system, coat hooks, two auxiliary twelve volt power outlets, a tilt steering column and a mechanical jack and wheel wrench that are located in the back of the cab. Optional tech features such as Bluetooth, cruise control, power door locks, remoteless key entry and steering wheel mounted audio controls are available on base models. This year, OnStar comes with all trims except the Work Truck Trim.

To get features like a rearview camera, remote vehicle start, navigation or XM Radio, you must upgrade to the SL trim or higher. Upgrading to the Denali trim provides a more luxurious feel.

For interior storage, the base model has two large pockets on both door panels, and two (upper and lower) deep glove boxes on the passenger side. The seat on the middle position of trucks with front bench seats also hides a storage compartment. In extended cab models, the rear seat folds up, creating a large and useful flat-floored cargo area. On the outside, carrying capacities vary depending on box size selected. The standard box is available with the Regular and Extended Cab and has 60.7 cubic feet of space. The Long Box is also available with the Regular and Extended Cabs, and offers 75.5 cubic feet. The Short Box comes with the Crew Cab and has the least amount of space: 53.2 cubic feet.

GMC Sierra 1500 Performance:  The 2011 GMC Sierra 1500's greatest asset is its five available engines which come with five or six cylinders and which allow buyers to customize the powertain. Thebase 4.3-liter V6 engine produces 195 horsepower and 260 pound feet of torque and is only available with Standard Box Regular Cab and Extended Cab models.

There are four V8 engines. The first is a 4.8-liter with variable valve timing engine that produces 302 horsepower and 305 pound feet of torque that is optional on the Regular Cab and Extended Cab Long Box, and standard on the Extended Cab Standard Box and the Crew Cab Short Box. The second engine is a 5.3-liter FlexFuel that can take a gasoline or gasoline/E85 mix. It’s available on most models, except the Denali Trim. The third engine is also 5.3 liters, and like the previous engine, produces a maximum of 326 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. This engine, however, is only available on Extended Cab, Standard Box and Crew Cab, Short Box all-wheel drive models. The main difference between the 5.3 liter engines is that one has an iron block for two-wheel drive, and the other has an aluminum block for all-wheel drive. The most powerful V8, a 6.2-liter engine that produces 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque, is standard on the Denali and optional on certain Extended Cab and Crew Cab models.

Different suspension options are available, and each is tuned for different performance strengths. The Z60 is tuned for best street performance, while the Z71 is for off-roading.

The Sierra’s hauling capacity varies by cab and box size. The Regular Cab with a standard box and the 4.8L engine can carry up to 1,815 pounds, while the Crew Cab 1500 XFE with the 6.2L engine can carry up to 1,980 pounds.

GMC Sierra 1500 Safety: Every 2011 Sierra comes with a series of airbags: head curtain, front and rear, seat-mounted and thorax air bags. OnStar is available on the base trim, but standard on all other models. It’s free for the first six months.
