Overview:  The new Chrysler 300 offers a vastly improved base engine, a more refined interior and a touch screen infotainment system standard. With the car offered in V6 or V8 models, RWD or AWD, there would seem to be a model for anyone looking for a full-size sedan. For 2011, Chrysler has breathed new life into the 300, which had remained largely unchanged since the 2005 model year. On the outside, the 300’s bold styling gave way to a design that is more elegant, while the inside has been updated with soft-touch materials that the previous generation lacked.

The new 300 manages to look more contemporary while maintaining a shape that’s instantly recognizable. Features such as LED daytime-running lights and LED tail lamps help complete the 300’s luxurious exterior. Inside, a standard touchscreen infotainment system earns praise, with the exception of navigation-equipped models. Chrysler’s new Pentastar V6 brings more power to the base model, while a HEMI V8 is also available on upper trims, and both engines provide solid power. All-wheel-drive optional is available on upper trims.

Chrysler 300 Exterior:  The exterior of the Chrysler 300 has been completely redesigned for the 2011 model year. The 2011 Chrysler 300 has a more refined shape and smoother lines. LED daytime running lights are now standard, and while the 300’s exterior is less pronounced, it’s still instantly recognizable.

Chrysler 300 Interior:  Inside the 2011 Chrysler 300, large windows have improved visibility and high-quality materials are utilized. The interior is very quiet while driving in the new 2011 Chrysler 300. Heated seats are standard front and rear on 300C models, as are ventilated front seats. While the base model does not get these comfort features, 300 Limited models can add them as part of an option package.

Chrysler improved the interior features on the newly redesigned 300. The big news inside is Uconnect infotainment system, which is now standard across the model line. Uconnect features an 8.4-inch touch screen, and comes standard with Sirius Satellite Radio, an auxiliary input jack, SD card reader and a USB port with iPod control. Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity is optional on the base trim, but comes standard on Limited and 300C models. Shoppers who want to add Garmin-based navigation to the Uconnect system will find it optional on the Limited trim and standard on all 300C models. Attractive, legible gauges and quality materials are used throughout the redesigned cabin.

Chrysler 300 Performance:  A new base engine is the big news for the 2011 Chrysler 300, as its 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 offers 114 more horsepower than the 2.7-liter V6 that came with base 2010 models. Chrysler plans to equip V6 models with an eight-speed automatic transmission later this year. Chrysler  300C models have ample power and torque, thanks to a standard 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Handling is generally considered comfortable, and the big 300 corners better than one might expect. Note that an all-wheel drive option is available on the 300C, but not on base or Limited models.

A new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 vastly improves power in 300s not equipped with the V8. The new V6 generates 292 horsepower, while those looking for the most straight-line acceleration can opt for the 5.7-liter V8, which puts out 360 horsepower. The V8 comes as standard equipment on 300C models, which can be had in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations.

A five-speed automatic transmission has been carried over through the redesign to put power to the ground on both models.  An eight-speed automatic is expected to be available for V6-powered 300s by the end of this year – which will likely improve power and fuel economy.

Chrysler 300 Safety:  The 300 comes stands with electronic stability control, front, side-curtain, seat-mounted side and driver’s knee airbags as well as reactive head restraints. Electronic stability and traction control, antilock brakes with brake assist and auto-dimming rear- and side-view mirrors also come standard. Also included is Chrysler’s Ready Alert Braking system anticipates situations that may warrant emergency braking and uses the stability control to set the brake pads against the rotors, effectively decreasing stopping distance in hazardous situations.

Optional safety tech is impressive, as the Chrysler 300 is available with options previously only available on luxury cars. These include a Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system with adaptive cruise control, which warns the driver if a vehicle ahead is being approached too rapidly and can maintain a set distance with the vehicle ahead when cruise control is being used. Also available is are Blind-Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Path (RCP) accident-avoidance systems, which alert drivers of vehicles in their blind spots or traffic moving towards their vehicle when the car is in reverse. Adaptive headlights, which adjust the headlight beams left or right based on steering direction, are also a safety feature on the options list.

2011 Chrysler 300 Review

The 2011 Chrysler 300 has received very good reviews from the auto press.  Here are some excerpts that our Greater Cincinnati Chrysler 300 shoppers would find interesting:

"Refined exterior styling and a vastly improved interior endow the big Chrysler with a new prestige, while new technologies equip it to compete with more expensive luxury models like the Acura RL, BMW 550i, Cadillac STS and Mercedes-Benz E 550.” – Detroit Free Press

"Go ahead. Swoon over the deep burble and ample torque emanating from the 300C's big V-8. We can wait. When you're done, reality is waiting with the V-6-powered 300. Don't fret. While the base car may lack the degree of silliness that comes with a 363-horsepower family sedan, it makes up with a commonly overlooked but crucial element: value." – Motor Trend
